Craniosacral Therapy
Stephanne Collins RCST DDR
Cranio-sacral therapy is a subtle, non-invasive, and profound healing form which essentially assists the body's natural and instinctive capacity to repair itself.
The cranio-sacral system is a physiological system like the cardio-vascular or respiratory system. It provides the physical environment for our central nervous system, which affects every part of our body, from the brain, to the tips of our fingers .
In response to physical or emotional shock,or injury, the bodies tissues contract,
and may stay contracted.
A skilled practioner using a "butterfly " touch, (not massage)can identify the source of the problem and stimulate the body to release any restrictions either physical or emotional , and resource and re-balance the system .
This may happen in one session or it may take several sessions Patients often arrive at a cranio-sacral therapist with long standing problems having tried other avenues without success. By stimulating the natural healing process cranio-sacral therapy can be used as a preventative health measure balancing and bolstering the body's resistance to problems. Ideally it is prudent to maintain optimal health by having monthly cranio-sacral sessions to prevent problems arising, specifically those caused by the stresses of our everyday lives . It raises the body's vitality and sense of well-being.
Stephanne Collins comes from a clinical background, as a senior radiographer and mammographer at the Conquest hospital .
Her reason initially for becoming a cranio-sacral therapist was to help her breast cancer patients, with both the emotional and physical trauma, post diagnosis. This treatment has surpassed her expectations in very many of these patients, specifically in dealing with the emotional trauma which seems to be particularly devastating with this diagnosis .
She also wanted to address some of the problems facing stroke patients, as her husband suffered a stroke 10 years ago . This has also been very successful in helping some of the many disabilities which stroke patients face .
Her clients since that time have naturally widened to include most of the problems listed in the leafet.
